If myself six months ago could see me now he would probably be a bit dumbfounded. I am not the typical "blogger" type, but this will be a great experience and make be come out of the protective shell I have built for myself.
Technology in the classroom is constantly changing and it can make even the most technologically advanced teacher feel a bit overwhelmed. What types of technology should you use? How much technology should you use? What are the advantages? Disadvantages? Just when you think you have it all figured out a new technology comes along which grabs students attention and we repeat the process all over again.
It's very obvious using effective technology in the classroom benefits students. What are some new forms of technology being used in the classroom? How does you school district feel about implementing the latest forms of technology and communication in the classroom?
Welcome to the blogosphere!
ReplyDeleteHi Kevin. The rapid growth of the digital era has me feeling as though I'm bungee jumping on a daily basis!
ReplyDeleteAs an educator, I have the same questions forementioned in your post. Fortunately, our school district's vision of implementing 21st Century Skills has been a top priority.
Teachers were given the lastest technology-based teaching tools, including Lumens document camera, white boards, projectors, ActivSlates and Activotes. These tools annotate visuals, collaborate with educators around the world, and demonstrate lessons in new ways.
Networking through Social Media, such as blogging provides needed collaboration and support that I find quite comforting.
Hi Jared!
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how far we have come in the last 10 years with technology or especially since we were in school. Today as my sons got out of taking their SATs there was a large group of teenagers walking (a good 15+) and every one of them was on their cell phone. My husband and I just laughed and commented about how this generation is so tech savvy that they are not used to things without it. As teachers we need to go with this and try to use that to our advantage. The students are used to instant information, instant connection with the world and I think as educators we need to embrace that. Your comment about the learning of one technology and another one comes along is why I try to learn with my students and let them teach me rather me always teaching them. Students seem to be more up on the latest technology than I am and it really gives students a feeling of ownership in a lesson if they can be an important part of the teaching.
My school district likes the technology but does limit its use in the classroom. As least internet access and the amount of access that our students have time wise. Is your district really committed in technology development?
My school district would say they are committed to technology development, but they are very worried about the negative aspects of technology. I guess they are worried about the unknowns of technology.
